Les Smith (vc), Colin Smith(President) Bill White (c) The two top teams on the ladder, API (Australian Postal Institute) and Deans Marsh played off for the premiership in a three day match at Birregurra. The 'Marsh' although loosing to API during the season had formed a well balanced team of youth and experience and had gone into the game favorite after a moral boosting outright victory over City United in the last of the home & away games. API made 221 and Deans Marsh were 1/54 at stumps on the first day having lost Bill White in the last over for 26. The fall of three quick wickets on the following Saturday made it look as if past disappointments would be repeated but Geoff Millard, Neville Clisold and Ron Millard batted determinedly and established a first innings lead. No play was possible on the last day due to rain. Deans Marsh had one its first premiership since 1954/55. Ron Millard with his third consecutive fifty (73) and personal bests by Neville Clissold (27) and Andrew Stewart (16*) were the highlights of the final. Les McKay taking four wickets with the ball and (39) with the bat were also his best figures for the season.
