Deans Marsh Cricket Club 'The Swamp Rats' The Deans Marsh Cricket Club was formed in 1898 although there was no evidence of an organized competition until 1920. In 1927 the Club joined the Polwarth Cricket Association winning five premierships between 1946 & 1956. In 1968 the Club joined the Colac & District Cricket Association winning seven premierships the most recent in 2007/08. The Club currently has two senior teams Division 2 & 4 and a U14 Junior team.
The Club’s home is the Deans Marsh Memorial Reserve on Pennyroyal Valley Rd. The ground is arguably the most picturesque in the association. The Club has recently renovated the clubrooms for the benefit of the members and the many supporters that frequent the home games and has access to the 'Heritage Victoria' listed footy shed as change rooms on match days. The Club has also upgrading the practice facility thanks to grants from Cricket Victoria and the Surf Coast Shire and is active in other community activities including 'Clean Up Australia' and the 'Deans Marsh Sheep Dog Trails' as part of the Club's 'embracing the community' policy.

Want to know more about the 'Marsh' Deans Marsh is a small rural hamlet situated midway between Lorne and Winchelsea. Traditionally a farming community, dairying is becoming less common and there is a emergence of non traditional farming practices including agro-forestry, olives, grapes and llamas. It's population is thinly spread over a large area and is the focus for the smaller communities of Bambra, Pennyroyal, Murroon and Bambra. The town is lively in arts and entertainment hosting live music on a regular basis, a produce market, an annual Sheep Dog Trail in November and the Pioneer Festival held in April along with a variety of community based activities. The town boasts five coffee espresso machines, a primary school, community hall and community cottage. The local businesses include Fagan's Secondhand Supplies, Old Lorne Road Olives Cafe, Ashley's Corner Store, Martain's Cafe, The Church Cafe and numerous B&B's. The villages other claims to fame include the birthplace of the opera singer Marjorie Lawrence, the starting point of the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 and the territory of the infamous 'Blah Blah' a Southdown X 'Monorchid' (a male sheep that had only one descended castrated testicle, with the other being retained internally). A huge animal that roved and stomped the streets of the 'Marsh' terrorizing the young, elderly and unsuspecting tradesman during the 1980's & 90's. (see Surf Coast Shire's profile of Deans Marsh).
